HP CIFS Product Suite
The HP CIFS Client and Server suite provide a broad and flexible range of
Unix-Windows interoperability strategies for HP-UX. The Common Internet File
System (CIFS) is the native networking protocol in Microsoft Windows operating
systems. HP CIFS product suite integrates HP-UX with Microsoft Windows
environments by providing remote file sharing, printer access, and
authentication services between HP-UX and Windows systems.
HP CIFS includes both Client and Server bundles for HP-UX. The CIFS Client
allows HP-UX systems to mount file systems on Windows, the HP CIFS Server,
Samba, and other CIFS servers, and access them locally, in a manner similar to
NFS, but with greater security. The HP CIFS Server provides remote access to its
local file system to Windows, the HP CIFS Client, and other CIFS clients;
Windows clients can also access the HP CIFS Server's printers.
The CIFS products include HP's industry-leading CIFS Unix Extensions, which
allow connections between CIFS Clients and Servers to utilize Unix file system
attributes within the CIFS protocol. The CIFS Client bundle also includes a
Pluggable Authentication Module, PAM-NTLM, which allows HP-UX logins to be
authenticated on a CIFS domain.
