Use the following instructions to install HP-UX Software Assistant (SWA).

Prerequisites

For running SWA on an HP-UX system via command line or HP SIM, you must install the SwAssistant bundle to get full functionality. The contents of the SwAssistant bundle have dependencies on Java (TM) and Judy Libraries.

When running SWA via HP SIM on a Windows system, all prerequisites are met by having a supported version of HP SIM running. SWA is supported on Windows within HP SIM for HP-UX 11i v2 and v3 only. See the HP SIM support matrix for information.

Make sure you have your active HP support agreement that includes Software Updates linked to your HP Support Center profile to access patch content and services.

Download Steps

  1. Go to the HP-UX Software Assistant webpage on the Software Depot.
  2. Click Receive for Free >> at the top or bottom of the webpage.
  3. Complete the required fields on the Software Depot form and then click Next. If you want to run SWA within HP SIM on a Windows system, be sure to select the Windows software specification.
  4. On the "Download software and license" page "Order Confirmation" tab, select Get Software or the "Get Software" tab.
  5. From the "Get Software" tab, select Download Directly >>. For running on HP-UX (command line interface and within HP SIM), download the depot to an HP-UX system. Note that the MD5 checksum is provided on the "Get Software" tab. For running within HP SIM on Windows, download the install file to the Windows system where HP SIM is running.

Installation Steps for HP-UX

  1. Run the md5sum command on the downloaded depot file to verify that the result matches the fingerprint provided on the "Get Software" tab of the "Download software and license" webpage. You can download HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum from Software Depot at https://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot.
  2. For HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11) systems only, verify that the minimum C++ Runtime Library patch is installed by using the following command.
    swlist -l fileset -a supersedes | grep PHSS_22898

The patch ID is PHSS_22898: HP aC++ -AA runtime libraries (aCC A.03.30). You can download this patch or any of its superseding and recommended patches from the HP Support Center at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsc.

  3. On the HP-UX system, verify that the minimum Java Runtime filesets are installed by using one of the following commands:
    • swlist Jre15
    • swlist Jre60

You must have either Jre15 1.5.0.20.00 or Jre60 1.6.0.07.00. If you need to download the Java technology products, they are available from the HP-UX Operating Environments (OE) and Applications (AR) media, and from the Java webpages at http://www.hp.com/go/java.

  4. Log in as root.
  5. Install SWA using the command swinstall -s <path_to_depot> SwAssistant.
  6. Set any required proxy and configuration settings in the /etc/opt/swa/swa.conf file.
  7. Add your HP Support Center user ID and password to the $HOME/.swa.conf file using the extended options hp_id and hp_pw.
  8. To run the SWA command line interface, execute the command /opt/swa/bin/swa.
  9. To run SWA from HP SIM, select Tools->Software Assistant->Generate Report from the HP SIM toolbar.
  10. For help, see the swa(1M), swa-report(1M), swa-get(1M), swa-step(1M), and swa-clean(1M) manpages.

Installation steps for Windows

  1. Double-click the file you downloaded to start the install wizard. The filename is
    HP-UX_SoftwareAssistant_C.02.90.exe.
  2. Follow the install wizard instructions.
  3. When the installation is complete, you will receive a message that setup has finished installing HP-UX Software Assistant. SWA will be available within HP SIM from the Tools->Software Assistant menu.
  4. Add your HP Support Center user ID and password to a configuration file using the extended options hp_id and hp_pw. HP recommends creating a configuration file just for these values. Specify this configuration file within HP SIM via the SWA Options page.
  5. For online help for SWA from within HP SIM, select Help->Help For This Page from the HP SIM toolbar or select the question mark icon.
