Questions and Answers

General:

Q1: Why are HP Storage plug-ins for System Center included under HP OneView?
A1: HP OneView provides our customers a converged management platform that unifies management of servers, storage, and network infrastructure. In line with the same OV4SC will provide a single pane-of-glass integrated view for health monitoring, events/alerts and detailed inventory of the underlying data center infrastructure.

Q2: How to synchronize SCVMM UI cache & Data cache updates?
A2: If a Host/Cluster/Host Group SCVMM folder object is updated using SCVMM native interface e.g. Exporting Array LUNs or Removing Array LUNs, where the Disk LUNs count is very high, then it is recommended to initiate refresh using Data Cache Refresh icon on top right corner of the Add-in screen.

Q3: When to use Page Reload icon in SCVMM UI Add-in screen?
A3: Refer "Page Reload" section in the HP Storage UI Add-in for System Center User Guide.pdf.

Platform Support:

Q1: What are the installation prerequisites for HP Storage Management Pack and HP Storage UI Add-in for System Center?
A1: For a complete list of installation prerequisites, refer to the User Guide.

Q2: Why aren't my HP informational events showing up as alerts under OpsMgr?
A2: The HP Storage Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager only generates alerts in OpsMgr for critical and warning states. Check the events view for a complete view.

Q3: How do I configure HP Storage Management Pack for different event flow models?
A3: Refer to the HP Storage Management Pack for System Center User Guide for selecting event flow model.

Availability:

Q1: I am unable to see all the ESX Virtual Machines in HP Storage UI Add-in pages created from a datastore that has LUNs from multiple storage arrays including HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage
A1: HP Storage UI Add-in pages will show the details of only those ESX/ESXi Virtual Machines that are created from a datastore with LUNs from HP 3PAR StoreServ only.

Troubleshooting:

Q1: After installation of the HP MSA Storage Management Pack for System Center v4.2, the volumes listed under MSA diagram view displays health status as warning whereas, the MSA GUI shows them as normal??
A1
: To resolve this issue, upgrade the MSA firmware GL210B007 or later.

Q2: I am getting error "Add-in Service taking more time than expected to collect data for. If Problem persist for long, please refer Add-in documentation."
A2
: This error occurs when Add-in takes more time to collect data from Add-service running where SCVMM Management Service is running. You may see this error while adding Host or Cluster to SCVMM with large number of LUNs already exported/presented to the added host or Exporting/Presenting large number of LUNs to hosts or cluster.

Solution for this error is to wait for couple of minutes, till Add-in gets details on storage related details of this host. The Add-in will still provide the details for those hosts/host groups or clusters which are not be effected by this change in SCVMM.

Q3: In the HP Storage UI Add-in for System Center, after installation, I am seeing data values as zero?
A3
: This happens after the installation of HP Storage UI Add-in, when the first refresh cycle is in progress. Please wait for the refresh to get complete, before checking the data. To know how to check the status of refresh, refer "View Refresh status" section in HP Storage UI Add-in for System Center User Guide..pdf.

Q4: I have HP Storage Management Pack for System Center v3.x already installed; does HP Storage Management Pack for System Center v4.2 upgrade from the previous version?
A4
: Upgrade from previous versions of HP Storage Management Pack for System Center to the HP Storage Management Pack for System Center v4.0 is not supported.
The HP Storage Management Pack for System Center v4.0 supports separate component selection installation for respective HP Storage device, hence it requires previous version (3.x) of HP Storage Management Pack to be uninstalled from the server.
Refer to the section: “Uninstalling HP Storage Management Pack for System Center” in HP Storage Management Pack User Guide.

Q5: The HP Storage Management Pack for System Center kit fails with error ”The scripts required for this install to complete could not be run”. What do I do?
A5
: Please install the SNMP Service on the OpsMgr Management Server before installing the HP Storage Management Pack for OpsMgr. The installation program runs a script which requires the smi2smir tool to register SNMP MIBS related to HP Storage devices. The smi2smir tool can be located in the \wbem\snmp directory. The tool gets installed when you install SNMP on Windows servers. For more information, refer to the HP Storage Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager Installation and User's Guide.

Q6: I am unable to view the Health Dashboard in HP Storage Management Pack for System Center
A6
: This occurs when the GUI controls are not loaded due to cashed data in OpsMgr.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
1. In the CMD prompt, enter <OpsMgr Installed directory>\Console
For SCOM 2012 R2, navigate to the following the installed directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager
2. Run Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe /clearcache

Q7: I am unable to view the capacity graph in HP Storage Management Pack for SCOM and I get the following message: Insufficient data points to display the graph (Minimum 2 data points required)
A
7: To display a capacity line graph hourly, daily and monthly at least 2 data points are required. The polling of the data points starts one hour after installation. For a newly configured storage system or CPGs/Virtual Volumes, the graphs display after 3 hours from the time of configuration or creation. It is recommended to use hourly/daily graph till daily/monthly graph are available.

Q8: In HP Storage Management Pack for System Center, I have configured HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and created CPGs or volumes. After 3 hours the graph is displayed but the initial first hour capacity changes are not reflecting
A8
: The capacity changes are displayed after the next polling cycle (within an hour).

Q9: I am getting partial data or no data in one or more HP Storage UI Add-in screens
A9
: This happens if no LUNs are present from any of the Arrays, a data refresh is in progress,
Arrays or any of its services are temporarily unavailable, connection to the Arrays is lost,
Arrays firmware is re-installed, and the provider configuration changed in SCVMM.
1. Click on Page Reload to reload the screen
2. Refresh the Data Cache
3. Verify the network connection to the Arrays
4. Check the provider configuration in SCVMM
5. Ensure that the required Arrays in Settings tab are authorized
