Overview

This document provides the details of solution for installation/upgrade of WBEM Management products bundle.

NOTE: HP's WBEM Management bundle is released only on the web. The latest version of the products are available on WBEMMgmtBundle. All the diagnostic product installed/upgraded from OE media or WBEMMgmtBundle, must be installed together due to the product interdependencies. These products may not work if installed individually. The WBEMMgmtBundle is a bundle of products. When you upgrade to WBEMMgmtBundle, the old bundle names that are empty, gets deleted automatically. The old bundle names get updated only when they are recreated from OE media. Run the following command to verify if the products have been upgraded successfully, when you upgrade products from the WBEM Management products bundle:

swlist -l product WBEMMgmtBundle

When installing the WBEMMgmtBundle, a product gets listed twice in the swlist with same product having same version but as part of two different bundles. The handling of the two depots is an expected SD behavior and can be safely ignored. Only one fileset gets installed and it is just a linkage of SD to the latest installed filesets.

The WBEM Management bundle constitutes the following products:

  1. Diagnostic and Support Tools
  2. HP-UX WBEM Kernel Provider
  3. HP-UX WBEM NPartition Provider

The following characteristics of Diagnostic and Support Tools ensure the reliability of your computer system:

  • Fast and easy means to solve problems
  • Proactive notification by hardware monitors of suspicious hardware events that might lead to failure
  • STM allows you to save certain error logs that help in identifying the source of a problem
  • Memory Page Deallocation (MPD) reduces the possibility of system failures due to memory problems. MPD is available only if STM is installed
  • CPU monitor takes Dynamic Processor Resilience (DPR) action to remove a faulty processor from service and replace it with a iCAP processor on the system, if available

Diagnostic and Support Tools enable you to do the following:

  • Test the system online for correct operation
  • Obtain hardware-related information (information modules in STM)
  • Review and analyze log file information for I/O-related events (STM logtool)

Obsolescence

Note: Starting with HP-UX 11i v3 March 2009 release, OnlineDiag (including STM) has been in support mode. Moving forward, no new enhancements will be made to OnlineDiag (including STM). 1. ProviderSvcsBase (PSB) (Provider Services Base)

The product ProviderSvcsBase (PSB) (Provider Services Base) contains a new daemon called diagtxd. On a Virtual Partition set-up, this daemon transfers error logs from the Virtual Partition to the Virtualization Services Platform for analysis.

It also contains daemon called oserrlogd. This logging daemon reads error log records from the HP-UX kernel via diag2 driver, stores them in the circular log files, which can be read by user space processes. Upon storing the error records in log files, the daemon sends EVM notification to the clients (for example, hardware indication WBEM providers and so on) which are interested in reading the error logs. The clients should subscribe to these EVM notifications to receive the error logs.

Features and Benefits

ProviderSvcsBase offers the following features and benefits:
