Installation Instructions

The HP Smart Setup CD is bootable so that you can boot from it to configure your HP Integrity server and install the Linux Operating System using your Linux distribution media.

Use the following steps to install the software:

  1. Power on the server. The server boots to EFI.
  2. Load the HP Smart Setup CD into the server CD or DVD drive.
  3. From the EFI Boot Menu, select "Internal Bootable DVD" and press Enter.

NOTE: The entry Internal Bootable DVD is not created in all EFI Boot Managers. If this entry does not appear, perform the following steps:

    1. Go to the EFI shell.
    2. Enter map-b and find the entry with CD or DVD.
    3. Enter fsx: (where x is the CD or DVD)
    4. Enter cd efi\boot
    5. Enter bootia64

The HP Smart Setup EBSU application starts and displays the Welcome screen.

To set up the server, insert the CD in the appropriate drive of your HP Integrity server and reboot the server. Your server will boot to the EFI Boot Manager. This tool helps you set up and configure the server at the EFI level. You can use this same process to access the utilities and documentation on this CD.

Known Issues

SCSI Adapters

The HP Smart Setup EBSU application may fail to update the firmware on SCSI adapters that have a SCSI-attached DVD drive. This issue may appear with Superdome systems with DVD drives, and may occur on other systems.

  • To update the firmware on a U320 SCSI adapter, follow the instructions in the readme file, located on the HP Smart Setup CD:
    \EFI\io_cards\u320_scsi\readme_1030.txt
  • To update the firmware on a U160 SCSI adapter, follow the instructions in the readme file located on the HP Smart Setup CD:
    EFI\io_cards\u160_scsi\readme.txt

Smart Array Adapters

The HP Smart Setup EBSU application does not support a firmware update for the Smart Array 6402 adapter on an HP rx1600 Integrity server. To update the firmware on a Smart Array 6402 adapter, refer to the HP Web site at:

http://www.hp.com/support

Configuring Storage Adapters

The Configure Storage Adapters utility of the HP Smart Setup EBSU application requires the EFI driver for the storage adapter to be installed prior to any attempts to configure storage adapters. If you are unable to configure the HP Fibre Channel and SCSI storage adapters, you should first perform the "Maintain Firmware" function from the Smart Setup EBSU Main Menu to flash the cards thus installing the EFI driver. You can then use the "Configure Storage" utility to setup your storage adapters.
