Overview
Description:

HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) is a comprehensive systems software and firmware update solution, which is delivered as a single ISO image. This solution uses HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) as the deployment tool and is tested on all HP ProLiant Gen8, G7, and earlier servers as defined in the Service Pack for ProLiant Server Support Guide found at www.hp.com/go/spp/documentation.

Upgrade Requirement:

Users should update to this version if their system is affected by one of the documented fixes or if there is a desire to utilize any of the enhanced functionality provided by this version.

Important Notes:

Important Note:

An issue has been identified with the Smart Array P410i Smart Component available on the HP Service Pack for ProLiant 2013.09.0(B). In some cases, this smart component will update the SAS expander in the D2200sb with incorrect firmware, causing the Smart Array P410i Controller to be unable to communicate with the hard drives installed in the D2200sb.  This results in the logical drives on the storage blade to be unavailable to the partnered server blade.  Please ensure that the following components are not selected for update:

CP020865.exe - Online ROM Flash Component for Windows - Smart Array P212, P410, P410i, P411, P711m, P712m, and P812 version  6.40
CP020864.scexe - Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - Smart Array P212, P410, P410i, P411, P711m, P712m, and P812 version  6.40
CP020863.scexe - Online ROM Flash Component for VMware ESXi - Smart Array P212, P410, P410i, P411, P711m, P712m, and P812 version  6.40

Reboot Requirement:

Reboot may be required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Install Instruction:

Start replaces Autorun in online and offline modes.

Users familiar with using Autorun on the Smart Update Firmware Maintenance DVD will notice that it has been replaced with a new browser-based interface known as Start. Start will walk the user through language selection, End User License Agreement (EULA) viewing, and launching HP SUM. The supported browsers for running Start in online mode are:

Installation instructions

There are two methods for using the Service Pack for ProLiant to update your ProLiant servers:

-    Online mode - Runs on a Windows® or Linux hosted operating system
-    Offline mode - Server is booted to the ISO
  • Automatic mode - Firmware components will be updated without interaction
  • Interactive mode - Follow the onscreen steps to update firmware components
To initiate deployment in Interactive mode:
  1. Locate Start.html which is found in the root of the ISO
  2. Open the html file in a supported browser
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen
Automatic mode will by default run firmware update without any user interaction after sitting 30 seconds at the menu screen when a SPP DVD or USB Key is inserted to the server.

Booting the SPP DVD from iLO virtual media is only supported in Automatic Firmware Update mode. Users attempting this in any other mode may experience hangs from connection timeouts, difficulties updating iLO firmware, and mouse syncing issues.

Note: If you install a software from the SPP and then install a Microsoft Windows® operating system Service Pack or other operating system updates, HP recommends reinstalling the software from the SPP.

Making a physical DVD from an ISO image file
Download the file ISO.

In order to create a DVD from this ISO image, you must use a software utility capable of writing an ISO file to a recordable media such as DVD-R.

Note: Simply copying the ISO file to a DVD-R will NOT result in a usable DVD. HP recommends you run MD5 Checksum on the Zip file and/or ISO image prior to burning the DVD. HP also recommends that you turn the verify feature "ON".
DVD labeling
For reference purposes, please label your resulting DVD as follows:

HP Service Pack for ProLiant DVD Release "version"

Copying the ISO Image file to the HP USB Key Utility For Windows

The HP USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the SPP DVD contents to a USB memory key. Users may then run the Service Pack for ProLiant applications from a USB key instead of from the DVD.  To download the HP USB Key Utility for windows, go to the Utilities tab on the page:  www.hp.com/go/smartupdate
